Ingredients

Pudding Base

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Layers

  • 3 pieces ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers

Instructions

Pudding Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, mix together your granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  • Pour in the milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir consistently until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5–7 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until smooth.

Layering and Chilling

  • In a separate dish, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and spread pudding over the layers. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pudding.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow flavors to meld and texture to set.

Notes

For a stunning presentation, use a trifle dish or serve in individual cups. Garnish with whipped cream and extra banana slices if desired.
