  • 9-12 pieces no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 jar marinara sauce (about 24 oz) or your favorite pasta sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage optional
  • 1 large egg
  • Fresh basil or parsley optional for garnishing
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare Your Meat Mixture (if using): In a skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat. Season it with salt and pepper, then drain any excess fat. Mix in half of the marinara sauce and set aside.
  • Mix the Cheese Filling: In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.

Layering

  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Place 3-4 no-boil lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Add half of the ricotta mixture, followed by half of the meat mixture, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta, meat, and more marinara.
  • Finish with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining marinara sauce and the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

Baking

  • Cover your dish with aluminum foil to prevent drying out, and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Serving

  • Let your lasagna sit for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Invest in good-quality cheeses and a rich marinara sauce. Customize with vegetables or make ahead for convenience. Resting time is key for the perfect lasagna.
