  • 4 slices Artisan bread (ciabatta, sourdough, or focaccia) Use freshly baked bread for best texture.
  • 8 oz Fresh mozzarella Slice into thick rounds.
  • 2 large Ripe tomatoes Heirloom or vine-ripened for best flavor.
  • 12 leaves Fresh basil leaves Use aromatic leaves for full flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Balsamic glaze Drizzle to enhance flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil or butter For grilling.

Preparation

  • Slice your tomatoes and mozzarella into thick rounds.
  • Wash the basil leaves and set them aside.

Assembly

  • Start with two slices of artisan bread, layer mozzarella, followed by tomato slices, and fresh basil.
  • Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top layer and add a touch of salt and pepper.

Grilling

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add olive oil or butter.
  • Place the assembled sandwich in the pan and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Serving

  • Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.

Notes

For the best results, don’t rush grilling and consider adding proteins like grilled chicken for a heartier sandwich.
