- 2 cups raw or roasted sunflower seeds
- 1 –2 tablespoons neutral oil optional, for smoother texture
- ½ teaspoon salt optional
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup optional for sweetness
If using raw sunflower seeds, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and spread the seeds on a baking sheet.
Roast the seeds for 8–10 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant. Allow them to cool slightly.
Add the sunflower seeds to a high-speed blender or food processor.
Blend for 2–3 minutes until the seeds form a coarse meal.
Continue blending; the mixture will start clumping and gradually turn creamy as the natural oils release.
Add salt, honey or maple syrup, and a small amount of oil if needed.
Blend for 5–8 minutes total until the butter becomes smooth and spreadable.
Transfer the sunflower seed butter to a clean jar and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before sealing.
-
Roasting sunflower seeds enhances flavor and helps them blend more smoothly.
-
Be patient while blending; the seeds need time to release their natural oils.
-
Add oil gradually only if needed to reach your desired consistency.
-
Stir the butter before serving if natural oils separate during storage.
