Cuisine American
- 1½ cups Mountain Dew soda chilled
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon lime zest
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: a few drops green food coloring
In a saucepan, combine whole milk and sugar over medium heat.
Stir until the sugar completely dissolves, then remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, chilled Mountain Dew, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lime zest.
Slowly add the cooled milk mixture to the bowl while stirring continuously.
Add a pinch of salt and optional green food coloring if desired.
Cover and refrigerate the mixture for 1–2 hours until thoroughly chilled.
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (about 20–25 minutes).
Transfer the churned ice cream to a freezer-safe container.
Freeze for 3–4 hours until firm enough to scoop.
Serve in bowls or cones and enjoy.
-
Always use chilled Mountain Dew to preserve the citrus flavor.
-
Chilling the base before churning helps create a smoother, creamier texture.
-
Avoid adding too much soda, as excess liquid can make the ice cream icy instead of creamy.
-
Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before scooping.
