  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced Ensure slices are even for proper cooking.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Adds flavor to the beef.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix with other cheeses.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Or homemade equivalent.
  • 1 cup milk To combine with the soup.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season based on preference.
  • optional garlic powder, green onions, or favorite herbs For added flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the chopped onion until browned. Drain any excess fat and season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder.

Assembly

  • In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cooked ground beef mixture, and then sprinkle about a cup of shredded cheese.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes and beef.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ground beef, and cheese, seasoning each layer as desired.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving, optionally garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes
