Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or a milk alternative)
  • 1 tablespoon sweetener (like honey or stevia, optional) This is optional

Optional Toppings

  • chocolate chips optional, for topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a microwave-safe mug, combine the protein powder, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Stir to blend well.
  • Crack in the egg and pour in the milk (and sweetener, if using). Mix vigorously until you have a smooth batter. Ensure there are no lumps.
  • Fold in a few chocolate chips if you desire extra sweetness and flavor.

Cooking

  • Place your mug in the microwave and cook on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes. Keep an eye on it; every microwave is different!
  • The cake is done when it has risen and is set but still moist; it should spring back when touched.

Serving

  • Let your mug cake cool for a minute or two before digging in. Top with more chocolate chips or a dollop of Greek yogurt if desired.

Notes

Tips: Don’t overcook the mug cake; start with a shorter cooking time and continue in 15-30 second intervals until done. Experiment with flavors by swapping cocoa powder for matcha or different protein powders.
