  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Adjust for desired color intensity

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, vegetable oil, sugar, vanilla extract, and red food coloring.
  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and grease lightly.
  • Pour about 1/4 cup of the batter onto the skillet. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown.
