Ingredients

  • Pear Filling
  • 5 –6 ripe pears Bartlett, Anjou, or Bosc, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Crisp Topping
  • ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter cubed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare filling: Add sliced pears to the baking dish. Toss with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and vanilla. Spread evenly.
  • Make topping: In a bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until coarse crumbs form.
  • Assemble: Sprinkle topping evenly over pears.
  • Bake: Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
  • Rest: Let rest 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm pears for the best texture.
  • If topping browns too quickly, loosely tent with foil.
  • Resting time helps the juices thicken for cleaner servings.
