Ingredients

  • Main Ingredients
  • lbs steak sirloin, ribeye, or flank, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 cups cooked white or brown rice kept warm
  • 1 medium onion diced or thinly sliced
  • Seasonings & Flavor Base
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Pantry Staples
  • 1 –2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • Salt to taste
  • –2 cups shredded cheese cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, or blend
  • Hot sauce optional

Instructions

  • Cook rice according to package directions and keep warm.
  • Pat steak dry and season lightly with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  • Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add steak pieces and sear 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Reduce heat to medium. Add onion to the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits from the pan.
  • Return steak to the skillet. Add cooked rice and stir to combine evenly.
  • Sprinkle cheese over the top, cover, and cook 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use warm rice for best texture—cold rice won’t blend as smoothly.
  • Don’t overcook the steak; it will continue to warm once returned to the skillet.
  • This recipe works well with leftover steak, too.
