Main Ingredients

  • 4 links Italian Sausages mild or spicy based on your preference
  • 4 pieces Hoagie Rolls or any bread of your choice
  • 1 cup Marinara Sauce homemade or store-bought
  • 1 red and 1 green Bell Peppers sliced
  • 1 large Onion sliced
  • Olive Oil for sautéing
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • Parmesan Cheese for garnish, optional
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a skillet or on a grill, cook the Italian sausages over medium heat. Turn occasionally until they’re browned and cooked through, usually about 10-15 minutes.
  • In another pan, heat a splash of olive oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onions, seasoning them with salt and pepper. Sauté until they’re soft and caramelized, about 6-8 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan, gently heat the marinara sauce until warm.
  • Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and place a cooked sausage in each. Generously spoon over the sautéed vegetables and drizzle with warm marinara sauce.
  • Top each sandwich with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • You can either broil the sandwiches in the oven for a few minutes or cover them until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Carefully remove from heat, and if desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

Try using a sturdy bread for best texture and experiment with different types of Italian sausages and toppings like giardiniera or different cheeses for variety.
