For the cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature for best results.
  • 1 cup milk Ensure it is at room temperature.
  • 3 large eggs Use room temperature.
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

For the frosting

  • 1 batch creamy vanilla buttercream

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Top cooled cake generously with creamy vanilla buttercream, slice into squares, and serve.

Notes

For added moisture, consider folding in a bit of sour cream or yogurt. You can also experiment with flavor variations by adding citrus zest or fruit.
