  • 4 cups ripe watermelon, cubed Choose a ripe watermelon for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons) Fresh lemons are recommended for better taste.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference.
  • 4 cups cold water (or sparkling water for a fizzy twist) Use sparkling water for a refreshing variation.
  • to taste fresh mint leaves for garnish Opt for mint or basil for an aromatic twist.
  • ice cubes Add ice when serving.

Preparation

  • Cut the ripe watermelon into chunks, aiming for about 4 cups.
  • In a blender, combine the watermelon chunks with 2 cups of cold water and blend until smooth.
  • If a clear drink is preferred, strain the watermelon puree through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher.
  • To the pitcher, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar, and the remaining 2 cups of cold water (or sparkling water if desired) and stir well until the sugar dissolves.
  • Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or balancing with extra watermelon as needed.
  • Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the watermelon lemonade over. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a lemon slice if desired.

Notes

For best results, chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Store leftovers in a sealed container for up to three days, giving it a stir before serving.
